Duties and responsibilities of the Structural Fitter

Frame adjusters fabricate and construct structural metal elements. Machine shops, construction companies, shipyards and manufacturing companies hire structural installers to carry out flexible full-time shifts that can include weekends and nights, with some overtime required. Structure assemblers work in mechanical workshops that produce metal parts and travel to construction sites to assemble and install metal structures. Structural installers are part of a larger team of builders and construction workers and report primarily to a shop supervisor or site manager.

Duties and responsibilities of the structural installer

The daily activities carried out by window fabricators vary according to the sector, the structures they are building and their working environment. However, these basic activities are generally the same despite these variables:

Read the plans

Frame installers read and interpret designs and determine how to build design elements.

Cut and shape the metal

Frame installers use torches and tools to cut and shape metal parts. They measure all metal parts to make sure they meet the required specifications, often grinding and scraping the metal to make sure they meet specific measurements.

Install the parts

Structure builders install and align metal parts by hand and with various tools.

Lift the metal

Frame fitters lift metal parts into place using forklifts and cranes.

weld metal

The frame installers weld the metal parts with the proper tools and safety equipment.

Design molds

Structural installers design molds to create custom metal parts.
