Approximately 73% of Looksharp respondents expected salaries in excess of $ 55,000 with a college degree, and 73% said they met this expectation. In an interesting twist, 12 percent expected salaries above $ 100,000, and about 13 percent got a job on this pay scale.

For comparison, the median starting salary for computer science graduates was $ 66,161, compared to engineering at $ 65,000 and math and statistics graduates at $ 60,300. The starting salary scales for business specialties were $ 58,600 and $ 58,000 for financial specialties.

CS courses for non-CS majors

Computer science graduates take computer science courses to strengthen their curriculum and enhance their skills in a technology-driven work environment. To excel in a competitive job market, non-computer science students must demonstrate proficiency in the technology aspects of their field of specialization. Business majors top the list of non-computer majors enrolling in computer science courses at 69%, indicating the need for this skill set in the broad and diverse field of business. Most companies would have a separate information technology department to oversee all their technology needs, which is a job for computer science graduates, but each employee must have the basic technology skills to perform their tasks effectively. 

Flexibility and adaptability of skills

Another cause for optimism regarding the job prospects of computer science graduates is the fact that this particular skill set is required in almost every business and organization. Graduates can find positions such as systems analysts, software developers, hardware engineers, systems architects, communications infrastructure designers, and data administrators, among other positions. Computer science graduates can choose to work as full-time on-site employees or work in remote locations with flexible hours. CS graduates have many opportunities to work as outside vendors who hire their services as needed or can opt for a consulting position working by project.
